Mystery of the Nile: Part 1 Captivation of Antinous
Antinous became a god by decree of Emperor Hadrian in the year 132 AD and that in itself is a mystery. Like Ganymede, it seems that young Antinous (age 12) was captured (or shall I say captivated?) by the Emperor to live in his court in Rome. Eventually, upon on advancing in years as part of the Paedagogium, school for imperial pages ( Rome Reborn ) Antinous became the Emperor’s lover. This follows Hadrian’s love for Hellenistic Greece ideals; including the acceptance of pederasty. In the old Grecian way, the love between a man and boy was considered the purest form of love. The story of Zeus and Ganymede represented this tradition.
