Roman era homoerotic pieces differ from the Greek artwork in the activity depicted-the Romans placed less importance on the mind and the heart, and focused instead on the anus, perhaps because free boys were off limits to them and the men had to make do with slaves- the youths being predicated are often half-turned around and place their hands on the forearms of their lovers in poses that can best be described as tender.
